James Dean Hall Biography

James Dean Hall has been playing professionally for 43 years. He started drumming with his Dads' 40's swing band at age 12, at age 16 he took up strings. With help from his brother Dan (Animal) , he learned the basics on Silvertone and Harmony guitars. He continued drumming with his Dad and brother Dan's band "TBI" "The Trashbeaters INC".   At age 17 he met Dave Ray which influenced him greatly. Dave gave him a mandolin one day and he started writing songs after figuring out how to tune it. He ended up drumming with Dave's band, Bamboo and met John Korner,Tony Glover, Willie Murphy, Maurice Jaycox, Lazy Bill Lucas, Roy Alstead, Ray Molina, David Mott, and Dylan (Wane B. Case) among many others.

All of these great musicians influenced his music and performing style. He started playing in Minneapolis in 1966 and played with many of the greats.

To date he has written 350 songs on mandolin, slide guitar and regular 6 string guitar. His style is also influenced by his upbringing in Lanesboro Minnesota and on the farm, small towns, simple folk, the root and Mississippi river, the wonderful woods and all the magical plants rocks animals and insects. He is a country boy by heart that loves the city scene. He has also written 3 books about his thoughts and experiences as a traveling troubadour. The books are "G7OD" - "In Search of the Rutabaga Truck" - and - "No Turn On Red".

When he's not performing on stage the world becomes his stage, he plays anywhere and everywhere, on street corners, in Cities and Villages. He has traveled world wide with his music and met and has been influenced by many different cultures and people.

At 55 years old he is just getting warmed up and ready to release his books and 3 CD's of music world wide. He is currently working on 2 more CD's and another book which will be completed soon. The next CD will be country songs called "Country Jim Bob, and the Hired Hands", and a blues rock CD called "Haunted Dreams". Keep your eyes and ears open, he may just be on your street corner, your town or village, or might stop by your farm
